It may not seem like the winter we are used to, but in St. Peter's Lutheran School, Richmond, kindergarten classroom, there is a large reminder of the arctic air! Full-day kindergarten students helped their teacher, Michelle Rolf, build an igloo out of 600 milk containers donated by parents and members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and School. The igloo is part of a thematic unit used in the Early Childhood program, which includes full-day kindergarten and full-day 4-year-old preschool program. The space is used for a variety of learning opportunities and had replaced a large tent from the previous camping unit. It makes you wonder, what will be next?

Known for his appearances on America's Got Talent, Ellen and for his Guinness Book of World Records card throw, Rick Smith Jr. and his friend Billy Matsumoto entertained the students at St. Peter's Lutheran School with magic, card-throwing and juggling. Students had met goals in their magazine fundraiser through the Great American Magazine Company to earn the special assembly shortly after returning to school from Christmas break. The show was captivating and enthralling for the students, and many left trying to do some of the tricks they had seen! Oranges were juggled and cards were thrown across the lunchroom just minutes after the duo had left.

During the month of January we celebrate Life Sunday on January 15. In conjunction with Life Sunday the teachers will be sharing age appropriate sex education material with their students on Friday, January 27th, in the afternoon. The videos to be used are from the Christian family perspective. The upper grades students are separated by gender and by grades. The videos are available for a parent to preview if so desired. You will need a VCR. As in the past, if a parent prefers their child not participate, we ask you to send in a note and we will be happy to honor your request.
